Can Cardo connect with any brand of helmet comms?

Yes - Cardo systems (like Packtalk, Freecom, Spirit, etc.) can connect with most other brands of helmet comms, but the type of connection and features supported depend on both units.

Here’s a clear breakdown:

1. Standard Bluetooth Intercom

Most Cardo units support universal Bluetooth intercom pairing with other brands:
Sena
UClear
Midland
Scala Rider (older units)
Others with Bluetooth intercom

You can pair a Cardo to another brand’s unit using standard Bluetooth intercom pairing — typically allowing:

  • 1-to-1 rider communication

  • Voice calls between units

  • Audio sharing (music/GPS) between paired devices

Range and features may vary by model.

2. Advanced Mesh (DMC) / Proprietary Networks

Cardo’s Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC) (used in newer Packtalk models) is:

  • More reliable and scalable than classic Bluetooth intercom

  • Great for group riding

But DMC is proprietary to Cardo.
So other brands cannot join a DMC network.
If the other unit does not support DMC, the Cardo will fall back to regular Bluetooth intercom with that device.

What Works — and What Doesn’t Works Between Brands

  • Bluetooth intercom pairing (1-to-1 or basic multi-pair setups)

  • Sharing music/GPS audio between units

  • Hands-free calls

Partially Works

  • Group intercom features only available within the brand’s protocol
    → E.g., Sena’s Mesh/Group Intercom only works with Sena
→ Cardo’s DMC only works with other Cardo DMC

Doesn’t Work

  • Proprietary group intercom networking across brands
→ You cannot have riders on Sena Mesh and Cardo DMC in the same mesh group

Practical Example

  • Rider A: Cardo Packtalk

  • Rider B: Sena 50S

They can pair via Bluetooth intercom and talk 1-to-1
They cannot use more advanced group mesh features together (Cardo DMC or Sena Mesh)

Pairing Steps (General)

  1. Activate pairing mode on both units.

    • Cardo: long-press the phone/phone-icon button until it announces “Pairing intercom.”

    • Other brand: follow its intercom pairing instructions.

  2. Wait for the units to detect each other.

  3. Confirm pairing on both sides.
